CARE Team: How Faculty Can Assist Students in Distress

Please follow the steps below to determine who to contact if you notice a student is distressed. 

Is the Student a Danger to Self, Others or Need Immediate Assistance for Any Reason?

How to Determine The student's behavior is clearly and immediately reckless, disorderly, dangerous or threatening, including self-harm behavior. The student shows signs of distress, but I am unsure how serious it is. My interaction has left me feeling uneasy and/or really concerned about the student. You are not concerned for the student's immediate safety, but the student is having significant academic and/or personal issues and could use some support.

Walk student to Counseling for a crisis/personal counseling appointment.

Provide student with mental health resources and contacts.
