How Do I Reset my Password? (Student)

Question

How does a Sierra College student reset their password?

Answer

On August 23, 2022, all users were required to reset their passwords.  If you have reset your password since that date, you must do so in order to access your account.

Passwords never expire. Create a secure, complex password using a combination of letters and numbers. The longer the password, the more secure.

Password Reset Instructions:

  1. Visit: https://passwordreset.sierracollege.edu/index.html
  2. Select the big, blue button “Reset Password.”
  3. In the “User ID” field, enter your Sierra College email address. Your email address looks like this: username@student.sierracollege.edu
  4. The next step contains a CAPTCHA Image. Type in the combination of distorted letters and numbers displayed on the screen and then select, “Next.”
  5. Select “I forgot my password” and then “Next.”
  6. Select “Email” and a code will be sent to the personal email address you listed on your OpenCCC application. Continuing students, returning students, or employees who added a personal email address in the “Update My Personal Info” section of mySierra would access that personal email account to retrieve the code. The code will be sent from msonlineservicesteam@microsoftonline.com. If you don’t see the email, check your Junk, Spam, Deleted, Conversations, Clutter, Focused, and any other folders that your email provider may divert incoming mail to.
  7. On the password reset screen, enter the code into the field provided and select, “Next.”
  8. Create a new password based on the following criteria:

Sierra College Password Rules:

  • The password length must be 15 to 32 characters
  • Include at least one uppercase and one lowercase letter
  • Include at least one number
  • Special characters are allowed, but not required
  • Cannot contain your username, first name, middle name, or last name
  • Cannot be the same as the last 25 passwords

Troubleshooting Tips:

In the "User ID" field, be sure to enter your Sierra College email address. Example: username@student.sierracollege.edu. If you are a student who has just applied within the last 24 hours, try waiting another day before attempting to reset your password. If it still doesn't work, Admissions and Records at (916) 660-7340 or enrollmentservices@sierracollege.edu.

If you received confirmation that your password was successfully reset, but you cannot log into mySierra, test your password by logging into Canvas and/or your Sierra College email. Visit the Sierra College home page www.sierracollege.edu and select the "Canvas" link or select the "Email/Outlook" link and test your login.  If the new password is recognized in either Canvas or your Sierra College email, then your new password is valid and the issue is most likely due to the browser used. Note: If your mySierra account has not been created yet, you will encounter a mySierra login error.  As an additional test, try opening a different browser and then try logging into mySierra or try using a different device to test your new password in mySierra.
