Email Text to Instructional Faculty for Good Start Progress Survey 1

Hello, Professor 

The Good Start Survey is now available! This survey will help connect your students with support services early this semester.  If you are teaching a late-start class this term that hasn't yet started, please disregard this first survey for your late-start class and use Progress Survey #2 or #3 to connect with your students once the class has started.

How can you use this Progress Survey to help your students?  Please keep the following questions in mind as you complete your survey(s):

  • Have your students logged into your Canvas shell?  If you have a mandatory assignment due the first week of instruction, has the student completed it?
  • Do your students have the resources they need for your course?  Many students who buy textbooks with financial aid money will be unable to purchase their books until three weeks into the semester.  Do you have a textbook on reserve for them to use?  Do students have access to other resources such as software, etc?
  • Do your students have the resources they need for online learning? (i.e. internet, quiet study area, etc.)
  • Do you have students who need to connect with their Support Specialist for help with your class?  Intro discussion boards and/or the first week's climate survey may provide insight into students' potential challenges

If you have a student in need, please raise a support needed flag and your student's Support Specialist will take it from there!  

A Faculty example of raising a flag:  
     1) They first email/message the student about their academic difficulty
     2) They then raise a flag to inform success specialists of the issue and mention if they have or have not contacted the 
          student.  This helps to inform the success specialist when they reach out to the student
 

This is an opportune moment to help students start off in the right direction, especially those students who are engaged in distance learning.

EXAMPLE  5/1/2014 9:00 AM PDT  to    5/10/2014 9:00 AM PDT 

Login to your Sierra Connect Dashboard here

  1. Look for "Outstanding Surveys" at the top of your Sierra Connect Dashboard
  2. Once you reach the survey grid, simply check the box next to the particular student's name for whom you would like to report progress.  When you select an alert for a student, you may be asked to provide comments. 
  3. Click Submit! If you don't have any progress to report, it is important that you click Submit, so we know you reviewed the survey. You will receive a confirmation email.
