Covered California
Covered California offers health insurance plans from private insurance companies. Depending on your household income and eligibility, you may qualify for financial assistance to reduce your monthly premiums.
Plans include coverage for essential health benefits, such as:
- Primary and preventive care
- Emergency and hospital services
- Mental health and substance use disorder treatment
- Prescription medications
- Maternity and reproductive health services
Medi-Cal: Free or Low-Cost Health Coverage
Medi-Cal provides free or low-cost health coverage for eligible California residents.
Many students with limited income may qualify. Eligibility depends on household income, household size, and other factors.
You can apply for Medi-Cal at any time during the year.

Students who are covered under a parent's health insurance plan may be able to remain on that coverage until age 26.

When Can You Enroll?
Covered California: Open enrollment generally takes place November 1 through January 31. You may also qualify for special enrollment following certain life changes, such as losing health insurance.
Medi-Cal: Applications are accepted year-round.
