How to record videos in PowerPoint and save as a video

Windows 

 Under the Recording tab click Record Slide Show.

The Recording Controls look like this:

Toggle to show or hide your notes during the recording

When you are done recording your slide show, you can either Save as Show or Export to Video. Save as Show will open to the presentation rather than open to edit mode. An Export to Video file will open as a video you can’t interact with.

Select the video quality, decide if you want to use. NOTE: The maximum size for Canvas assignments is 500 MB.

Click Create Video and save the video to your computer. 

 

Mac 

Under the Slide Show tab click Record Slide Show.

Here you can record audio and or video, as well as write on your slideshow.

Saving your PowerPoint as a video will play the presentation as a video instead of opening the presentation in editing mode in PowerPoint. To save the PowerPoint as a video, go to File, then Export

The File Format will be either MP4 or MOV. MP4 is universal while MOV is more often used for Macs. Please be sure to follow your assignment instructions for the file type!

If you have recorded timings and narrations in the presentation, make sure to check Timing to include them in the video. 

Select Export and choose where you want to save the video.
